Cosmic Conversations
Every Third Tuesday at 7:00 pm
Tuesday August 19th Topic: The Search for Planet Nine
Astronomers have long studied the orbits of the planets and many years ago noticed that some were irregular, indicating the presence of some other object or objects pulling on them. This led to the discovery of Pluto that at the time was declared a planet.
Join us to discuss the observations and ideas around a possible Planet Nine.
We will be trying out a hybrid in person and Zoom format for this conversation. In person will be a small group (limited to 15 people) at Battle Point Observatory, and a second option to attend via Zoom is below. Advance registration is required. Please note these conversations are for ages 16+, due to the in-depth discussion material which younger audiences may not find interesting.

Cosmic Conservations at the BPO work much like a book group. Topics are pre-selected by the group and become the basis for the evening's conversation.
References are given for a selected topic, e.g. Wiki articles, news pieces, magazine articles etc. so that everyone has some background on the subject. These are non-mathematical discussions, designed to “ignite a passion for science through the lens of astronomy."
